He executes the play when they are there (TD to Kirk that was called back), sometimes he misses the plays when they are there and often times he executes a bad play. I expect him to elevate the design, the O-line and the team. Everyone has issues at O-Line, everyone calls bad play, but the QB is supposed to go and make a play, and he does not do that often enough. Seriously, why do people not have common sense anymore? Trevor Lawrence is NOT a magician. This man has shown leadership skills most QBs around the league envy, but that skill doesn’t magically make a bad line great or make a fool of an OC into an offensive genius. These are grown men, not children who need someone to hold their hand. You have a poor understanding of expectations. He can only elevate them when they work as intended. This is a team sport. You don’t blame the QB when the O-line blocks poorly. You don’t blame QB when his OC makes poor decisions that puts players at a complete disadvantage from play to play. If you HAVE to blame a person, you can blame the head coach for not managing his staff on game day. Yes, a QB is supposed to go and make a play, but opportunity is required. How does opportunity happen? When the coaching staff puts their players in position to make a play. Calling a play with a 5-step drop that close to your own end zone not only puts your line in a bad position (whether they are good or not), it puts your QB in a bad position as well. They could have called a shotgun play if they really thought rushing wasn’t an option (which it was, there was time on the clock AND TOs available), but Taylor didn’t think clearly enough and we ended up with a safety and ultimately, the loss. |
