Believe it or not, the state can charge him and prosecute for far more and more serious crimes than the federal government can.

I know what the law is and how jurisdiction works based on my way far back past working in law enforcement.

By my count (and I could be wrong on this) the only federal crimes that he could be charged with are as follows.

Possession of a firearm with the serial number removed.
Felon in possession of a firearm.
Threatening the life of a former POTUS.

In addition to the above charges (possibly minus the threat to the former POTUS) the state can also charge other crimes.

Driving a vehicle with a stolen license plate.
Evading or attempting to evade law enforcement.
Resisting arrest.

Also, serving a sentence in a state prison is far worse than serving a sentence in a federal prison.
