Doing my best Bullseye impression here. With a month of football games behind us and at 0 - 4. Trying to break down overall units and some specific players in general. I'll TRY to keep it short and sweet.
Offensive play is garbage. Woefully inconsistent. Starting with Lawrence. He's failing this team at the moment. D+ is me being fair because he's had 1 turnover in 4 games, however, the inaccuracies, the overall flow and feel of these games with him, I just don't see it looking good long term and there's buyer's remorse for me already after that contract deal. Yesterday was the spillover for me after three weeks of the offense doing nothing. He had the chance yesterday to get it done and he didn't do it.
Etienne is below average. I am digging the [BLEEP] out of him for the momentum killing fumble in Miami. It set the tone for the whole month of September. The WR core can be better. BTJ is a lone bright spot. The rest of the group is underwhelming or inconsistent. Offensive line play has been up and down but average overall in my opinion. Average enough for this team to be at least 2 - 2 instead of 0 - 4 in my opinion.
Good stuff out of Bigsby and Strange in year two. Enough said. Much better overall production and play. Night and day from rookie season. With that said? The defensive line is not flashing enough nor doing enough. They get a D+ along with Lawrence. Your QB, your pair of EDGE rushers, etc. They're supposed to make the momentum shifting plays. Just not seeing it enough.
Secondary is beat up. Holding it's own to some extent. The linebacker's are up and down as a room overall, again, also banged up. Coaching across the board gets a solid C-. I find them all below average at this point, slightly. I think if we're looking at the first four games? Better coaching in the opener could have maybe changed the outcome, and better against Cleveland and even yesterday could have changed the outcome.
However, the skill position group along with Lawrence have basically let the play callers down so far in four weeks. That's really how I view things. Etienne's fumble, Engram and Kirk's drops, the illegal shift with Johnson, and Lawrence missing two TD passes yesterday? That's 28 points at the minimum right there that they've cost this coaching staff and the drops in the opener and other contests could have given the coaches more opportunities to look better.
Let's see what October brings I guess.
