Hurricane Helene Election Fallout

All the small towns are not all connected by dirt roads. There is plenty of asphalt. I know this because we spend time in SW NC mountains every year.
If I were to make a guess as to why you mostly see Asheville in the media and not any of the small towns is because our governor is a Democrat, Asheville majority democrat, and the media is left leaning. No one on the blue side wants to hear about the conservatives in small towns who are is as much need as the liberals in Asheville. Also there is simply the matter of logistics. Some areas further into the mountains than Asheville are simply cut off from the rest of the state. Landslides and rivers washing out roads, highways and bridges have made it impossible to get to some of these areas. Officials aren't letting people in or out of any accessible areas unless they live or work there, media included. If you really want to know what's going on there you'll have to look to social media and find people who live there and are reporting what is happening or not happening. I can tell you that the government is not doing a damn thing so communities are making things happen. No red tape, no committees to vote, no bureaucracy. Just people helping their communities in need with no one looking for the spotlight to grandstand. |
