I think it was a mini-series starring that guy from "Wings." Doesn't touch Kubrick though. I read the book and saw the movie and can say that Kubrick's version is awesome. Hard to make a movie as good/creepy as a book and he did it. Amazingly, The Shawshank Redemption, also King, was also a movie that was as good (or maybe better) than the book (short story).
