Khan won't fire Baalke until he has someone else to lean on. He got rid of Dave Caldwell because he could then lean on Baalke. But who is below Baalke that he could lean on? No one. Baalke is playing Khan like a fiddle because he knows Khan likes continuity.  

All of this is pure speculation on my part. I admit to talking out of my [BLEEP], but I would be willing to bet there is a smidgen of truth to it.

He also tried someone between him and the GM but that was Coughlin and it didn't work.

Even that was more splash than practical. The guy between those shouldn't be a former coach who's known as a hard case, he should be an executive who manages both the field and the office to build consensus through collaboration. Baalke always seems to be at odds with everyone else, be it players, coaches, or the other office staff.
