Ok, I'm just wondering. Where do you get the idea that Johnny has more "upside" than Teddy? I don't get that and honestly, the whole "upside" part of draft talk I pretty much ignore. It's an intangible thing they're commenting on that they have absolutely no idea. Ryan Leaf had more "upside" than Manning in that draft. Johnny barely reads half the field, misses open guys a lot, and runs waaaayyy too soon and often. He isn't getting any taller. He isn't getting any quicker, and if recent history tells us anything (RG3) his quickness be the first thing to go for him. He has a high completion percentage on his 20+ yard balls, but fails too much on the routine throws. And the plays that are supposed to be routine end up being a clusterf*** because he breaks the pocket and runs into trouble. He found ways to win games, but so did “He who shall not be named” while at UF.

Honestly, I'd say that Teddy has more "upside" than Johnny. Teddy is coming out of school with the highest completion % of any other QB this year, and he's not throwing mostly screen passes. The only guy who would have been higher than him was David Fales during his junior year. Teddy moves around the pocket better than any other QB this year. He slides up in the pocket and steps into this throws consistently. When he does break the pocket, running is his last option. He is more accurate on the run than Johnny is. He still squares his shoulders before throwing, even when going the wrong direction. He reads the whole field. He calls out his own offensive line blocking assignments and checks to different plays. He throws with good anticipation and has higher accuracy than any other guy up to 20 yards. His 20+ throws are average, but he still has a good completion percentage. And he proved that he can put on weight which he did at the combine to 215 lbs. He's never missed time due to injury and has played through injuries, unlike Mett who is much bigger and still got lost to an ACL tear. He's not afraid to take a hit to make a throw. He is still athletic enough to scramble and get yards with his feet if he needs to.

Johnny is a winner at the college level. There’s no doubt of that. But I don’t think his game carries over to the NFL. I think he’s a project who has to learn to read the whole field and who’s going to get a lot of balls batted down. He takes a lot of risks and makes a huge mess with too many routine plays. I was listening to Ross Tucker on Sirius XM the other day and he made a great comparison for Johnny. Doug Flutie, but without the field vision. Flutie was a great player for a time in the NFL and has one of the most memorable plays of college football history. But what did he win in the NFL? And Flutie was smarter and had much better field vision than Johnny. It may be fun to watch at times, but I want the guy who’s the top in terms of QB’s who win in the NFL. That is Teddy, and there’s no argument.

Honestly, this whole argument should be between Teddy and Bortles.
