The key question is, why did 10 million Biden voters stay home? Some of that answer, at least in Michigan, is the Gaza war. But it had to be more than that, I think. In my opinion, someone who is completely capable of voting, and simply decides not to, is usually the lowest of the low information voters. Completely unengaged. College educated people like us want to find some sort of policy position that makes a difference for people like that, but there simply isn't one. It's personality, it's emotions, and it's the fact that it was much easier to get a mail-in ballot in 2020 than it was in 2024. Kamala failed to connect with most lower income people. It's simple. Democrats always protest that "Well Trump is a lot less similar to those people than Kamala is," and that's true, but it's irrelevant. Trump was always going to get his share of low income people, people who know he's always been rich, but who think he fights for them. Kamala wasn't ever going to persuade those folks. What she needed to do, and failed to do, was engage those who are lower income, hard luck, not very educated, who don't vote for anyone. Biden accomplished that. She failed. Democrats need to find someone, more like Bill Clinton and Joe Biden, who has that common touch.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.
