I understand the concern.  But I think a players type EVP is the correct hire.  The problem was that Coughlin didn't want to be the EVP, he wanted to be the GM/HC all wrapped up into one.

Plus, let's not forget that Coughlin is a hard nosed micro manager.  There was no way that type of personality type would be a good EVP.  You need an EVP that looks at the big picture and then allows the GM and HC to do their jobs, while he oversees the entire operation and provides an unbiased report to the owner.  

I think Boselli fits all these attributes.  He's a players guy that has experience on the field at an HOF level.  He will demand respect from all those underneath him.  He is also smart, politically savvy, and eloquent enough to communicate to the owner the best course of action.  By "political" I don't mean Red V. Blue.  But that he knows how to manage his wording in a way that will engage the owner to act properly.  Boselli has emotional intelligence.  He's learned it over time from having to debate Pete Prisco.  He's a great face to the franchise.  Especially since Shad is more comfortable just sitting in the background.  You need someone like Boselli to be the calm, measured voice of the franchise that is all in on the city.

Boselli fits the bill.  Let Boselli then look to hire what he thinks would be the best GM/HC combo that will have passion to really build a team for long term success.
