I suppose if you're able to fire the GM, it gives the team a head start on vetting the new guy.

Getting rid of the GM early clears out the fog of him trying to somehow hold his job.  Honestly, I'd rather let Doug and Press coach run out the string and fire Baalke on Monday.  That way we can start getting things in line for the next regime.
