Honestly, I don't ever remember Trump claiming to be a Christian. It's pretty obvious he is not even if he goes through the motions from time to time. Calling yourself something and actually being that thing aren't the same. 

Supporting a Christian POV or Christian values is not indicative of someone being a Christian. It simply means they're supportive in general or for political gain. Every politician caters to whoever they feel will support them the most regardless of their actual personal feelings about them. Trump is no different from Biden, Harris, Obama, Bush 1 & 2, Clinton, etc. but because it's Trump it's wrong and hypocritical. 

Double standards everywhere.

Trump never claimed to be a Christian. 
He has spoken about going to church, saying he doesn't go often, he respects it, but he doesn't fully take it seriously. 
And he said at an informal Christian forum that he never really felt a need to ask for forgiveness.
He met with James Dobson and James left that meeting saying Trump was now a "baby Christian." But there was never any follow up, the campaign didn't want to talk about that and it's not clear if Dobson was authorized to say that or not.
