Possible, but why did Garland drop the investigation?

That doesn't make sense.

It's interesting.  I googled, "why did the DOJ drop the investigation into Gaetz," and I learned, the DOJ investigation actually started during the Trump administration.  That investigation was into whether Gaetz had sex with underage girls.  Nothing else.  The DOJ under Biden then dropped that investigation.  The HEC investigation apparently involves a lot more, namely, the sex with underage girls, PLUS, whether he used illegal drugs, accepted improper gifts, gave special favors to personal contacts, and obstructed the HEC investigation into all of that.

Since he resigned from Congress, the HEC no longer has jurisdiction.  So, he gets off the hook for that one, too.
