Difference between you and Marty is he’s not looking for validation on a message board and you are. He’s secure enough in his own opinions that he doesn’t need a virtual head pat to tell him how smart he is. If you’re confident in what you post, you won’t feel the need to be validated.

The problem with downvotes was, there was no way to tell the difference between "I disagree with you" and "I don't like you." 
I just wanted to know which it was.  If you don't like me, fine, a lot of people don't.  If you disagree with me, let me know why, we might learn something.
