Communism in the Soviet Union eventually broke down bloodlessly. But it was sudden.  The CCP has greatly extended or loosened the leash they have on the economy since Mao.  So it doesn't always tighten.  They could loosen it from here, in theory, but more likely it will tighten in the next decade.
