It is simple, Morse is about to be 33 has his play has seen a big decline as the season has went on.  Saying you have a year to groom his replacement means the new regime will not want to upgrade the weakest position on the oline.  That 1 year left on his deal will mean nothing if the new regime wants an upgrade there.

Correct, but he IS the bridge to the next center. It's unlikely we find a Day 1 starter in the draft and I don't expect this team to go heavy in free agency this year, so Morse is the steady, reliable average declining vet most teams use to transition. Had we taken one last year like many of us were saying then we wouldn't be having this conversation today, the next guy would already be here and ready to start. Teams do it every year.  A good GM can find a upgrade to Morse.  There are a few guys in this draft.  Morse is steady at what?  His play has declined every week.  It will be interesting to see how he plays against the Jets
