That’s a huge decision and commitment the 49ers have to make. It’s not very clear to me that Purdy is a difference maker at QB. When the team is healthy, he’s a game manager. He fits. But he’s not one who can lift a team by himself with any extraordinary skill or talent, in my opinion.

But then heres the problem: the problem is there's about 5 or 6 of those guys who can lift a team by themselves....Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Hurts and Lamar. That's pretty much it for me. So if you don't have one of those guys, but you have a guy who can win, what now?

It’s such an important decision, and I bet the 49ers do it, also. What real choice do they have? They got the benefit of Purdy’s paltry rookie contract, and now they’ve got to pay. Guess we’ll see how it turns out.

I would almost argue that the 49ers bigger issue is that they really miss 36 yo Trent Williams being out and they have no viable replacement for him.

Williams is one of the best offensive left tackles in the league, for sure. But he can’t turn back the hands of time. Williams isn’t going to play forever, and he’s been out of the lineup with an ankle injury. If you check out any coverage and opinions of the 49ers 2025 draft, many are predicting they’re going to use their 1st on <wait for it> an offensive tackle.
