FWIW L2L and I both are with women who are more accomplished and higher earning than us.  But the polling consistently says that most younger unattached men don't want that for themselves.

Well since you’ve never heard it, it must not have ever happen in the history of ever. 
Did you miss the part where I’ve said it’s less common now that it has been in the past? Which is a wonderful thing, because people are realizing that harm that kind of thinking produced. 

My son earns less than his partner right now and has absolutely no problem with it. She earns more now, but that won’t always be the case from the nature of his earning potential with his career path. Whoever earns more in their relationship doesn’t matter to either of them because they are both in the “yay money” mindset.
