Trump didn't promise to pick an evangelical and Mike Pence could convert to atheism or Catholicism or Islam tomorrow.  Harris will still be half-black until she dies.

But the point stands: they were both chosen to get votes.  That's the point I believe Lucky2Last was making.  They were both chosen for one reason only- to get votes.  We can call it DEI, or broadening the ticket, or anything else.  But the reason they were both chosen was the same.   There were some differences in the way it was done, but fundamentally, it was the same thing.
