If you are built for 3-4 and see your window as open(ing), why do you bring in a guy who is going to force a defensive rebuild? At the very least, why bring in a coach who is unable to be fluid enough in their scheme to utilize the remnants of the roster during transition?

Coaches made that choice. GM and Owner supported the choice. Everyone is culpable.

I think because we had a decent amount of pieces at LB that could fit either scheme for it not to be a "from the ground up" type rebuild.  I prefer a 4-3 base defense personally if you have the ends for it which we do.  We just didn't have the secondary pieces and the patchwork parts we brought in in free agency (primarily Darby) weren't good enough.  Might have been some miscommunication issues or just lack of experience in the scheme issues that contributed as well.
