Right, but is there one clear reason for that?  Was it all on him?  I mean, Nielsen's defense is highly criticized around here and apparently rightfully so.  Did the scheme and/or other talent deficient personnel in the secondary contribute to his apparent poor play?  Tape watchers here and in the building will know I suppose, but if he was looking bad because of failings elsewhere in the scheme or because of other deficient talent on defense, perhaps 2024 is not representative of him moving forward?  He's still very young.  He'll be just 25 in March.

I just find people quick to jump to very easy and lazy conclusions about things (shocker on an internet sports message board I know) when context absolutely matters and there are a great many factors that go into final scores and win/loss records.  Perhaps that's not happening here and you've delved into the tape, but it definitely happens.  We can all agree we want to avoid scenarios of throwing the baby out with the bathwater and then watching baby go somewhere else and play at a really high level, right?  We heard enough about Quincy Williams for the past couple of years.  Let's just make sure we're throwing out a turd and not a diamond covered in soot is all.

This past season had a lot of things contributing to the negative result we got.  Many people either like to or need to find one singular focus for their ire though, when the reality is that it was a bunch of things, probably none of them back breaking on their own.  This past season has been weird in the sense that there isn't necessarily a consensus on this board on who that one person is.  For many, it's either Pederson or Baalke or Press or Nielsen or Trevor or other specific player(s) or perhaps for some it's all of the above.  Khan has clearly assigned majority blame to Pederson based on him being the only one fired at the moment.  Baalke may yet be fired as well though, who knows?  At any rate, if Nielsen is that singular focus in someone's mind and is hot garbage and the primary reason for our record, might that absolve Cisco's 2024 season even a little?
Thats because it wasnt just one thing, it was a bunch of things.  Almost every player on defense regressed on D because of Nielsen.  I think Cisco will do decent to whichever team signs him and ill be pulling for him.  With that said I want the best possible solution at S we can get and I dont think that will be Cisco.  If you think he will be the best option than cool, but I think we can upgrade both safety spots.  I dont want to resign a guy hoping for a rebound when there will be multiple guys out there that has been playing at a hight level.  I want a guy that has continued high level play like a Justin Ried or a Budda Baker.  If we can get him for cheap sure but he will be looking for a decent pay day being he will be coming off his rookie contract.

The good thing for us is safety is one of the deepest positions in FA and the draft.  Id honestly like to get 2 new starting safties, 1 in FA and 1 in the draft.  We have to bring in 1 quality starter.  If we dont get a Trey Smith or a Tee Higgins in FA I hope our big time FA is one of the safties.  If not id love to add Justin Reid who has been a big part of the Chiefs great D and wont break the bank but would be a huge upgrade.  In the 2nd round of the draft I think we need to come away with one of the top safties in the draft even if it means trading up from the 3rd.  I think one of Emmanwori, Starks, or Watts we could with our 2nd round pick. Jahdae Barron would be a great pick in the 2nd as well, the Jim Thorpe award winner who can play S or CB.  You have guys like Malachi Moore and Kamari Ramsey who could be had in the 3rd or 4th possibly that could also be upgrades for us.

With that said, this is one of the best years in recent memory if we want to upgrade the safety position in the offseason.  It wouldnt be hard to turn one of our biggest weaknesses into a strength with all the very good safeties that will be available. Javon Holland is a FA and would be an amazing get as well.  Camryn Bynom is a FA for the Vikings that has played well this year and Talanoa Hufanga will also be a FA.  Hufanga could be an interesting get, he will likely a discount being he tore his ACL last year but he is will only be 25 and was an All Pro before the injury.  Lots of great options at S this offseason and Baalke or whoever cant mess this up.
There are definitely many good options in both the draft and free agency to upgrade the safety position. The Jaguars also need to add a 2nd starting cornerback to replace Darby. While this position isn't quite as deep in free agency as safety, there are still some good candidates. Charvarious Ward, D.J. Reed, Byron Murphy and Carlton Davis would all be upgrades in our secondary.
I think really just one with Jones and Campbell.  Im hoping Will Johnson is 100% come combine
