That appears to have been a media creation if you factor in Leftwich's recent comments.  He was never offered the job and would have taken it in an instant with no qualifiers had it been according to him.  From all available information, the most logical conclusion is the Jags were just doing their due diligence (or being incompetent if you prefer) and not looking to rush a hire of anyone.

I don't believe Leftwich's comments, too many people reported it and he didn't refute it for years. I think he made a power play and lost because being in the NFL is a tiny fraternity and you have to play by the rules. He's essentially been blackballed ever since while other similar guys like Bienemy keep getting jobs (and technically even promotions) despite failing, also being a minority, having major off field skeletons. Now Leftwich wants back in so he's saying what he has to say to get back in good graces.
