I don't really know where you fall on that.  I think we both agree that our even suggesting it up-ends the norms and the expectations of all the countries in the Middle East.  But that might be a good thing.  Time will tell.

I think Trump is goading other ME nations to step forward to take control and rebuild Gaza to keep those pesky Palestinians contained. They don't want them, but the Islamists uses Gazans and Gaza as a front operation for terrorism, which in turn unsettles the entire region. Now is the perfect opportunity to rebuild Gaza into a relatively peaceful and prosperous area which suits their desire. It's going to require a lot of oversight and expense, but they have no other real choice at this point.

Hopefully there won't be any way to see which one of us is right. Hopefully the rich Arab countries lead a good effort to clear the area out, maybe the US chips in, maybe not, and we can say Trump goaded them, but it we'd have no way to know if he was bluffing, as you say, or serious, as I say.

If nothing changes over there, that's a bad outcome and I'd be wrong.

If our country's military and military police lead the effort to clean up the area, that's also a bad outcome and you'd be wrong.
