Nobody really hated the guy until he got into politics.  People thought he was overrated, but they didn't hate him. 

Speaking of scaring people away from electric cars, there is a bill advancing in the Florida legislature which would allow towing companies to triple the rate they charge to electric cars as compared to gas cars. In the previous session, they made a law that overturned any county or city ordinance that might have required a charging station at a new development. 

So yes there are definitely Republicans that hate electric cars.

While I understand that may be your opinion, I would rephrase that a bit. There are Republicans that find it offensive to be forced to buy electric cars. The only political party currently wasting emotion on hate are the Democrats.  Quite interesting is they currently remain silent on the domestic terrorist that are fire bombing electric cars. This is a nonverbal admission of support for these domestic terrorist which makes me question their values.
