You'd say, "that's not fair, he doesn't represent my side."  Great.  People who burn Teslas have nothing to do with the point I'm making either.  I'm talking only about elected officials, appointed officials, prominent lobbyists, prominent pundits.  I'm not talking about arsonists.

It was never really on topic.

Jag149There are trade offs for both. Electric batteries weigh a ton and rape the landscape mining for materials. Expect to be purchasing tires more often. This puts more "tire pollution on the roads and at the recycle plant. When they get around to evaluating all things expect to pay more to register the car. The extra weight will require more road upkeep and they purchase no gas so add the tax portion to that. By the time you charge a battery at your home the T&D loss negates the efficiency saving of electric over gas. The power company will need to generate almost 2x the power. Both systems have trade offs. Personally I am looking for both to be replaced by Hydrogen burning or Hybrid Hydrogen battery cars. These have been handcuffed by the "old money" oil guys for years.

The weight of the batteries only gets cumbersome if you demand 300 mi driving range. If you accept say 150 mi driving range, the weights are pretty similar. And people outside of North America are more often willing to accept shorter driving ranges.
And as I said the different thread, different places have different power mixes, if you have a lot of nuclear or renewables in your local power mix, then the electric vehicle becomes a huge win for the environment, even with the mining and manufacturing drawbacks you point out.

Actually, you did bring up people burning Teslas.  Post #24, quoted above.

A 150 range is just not adequate for the vast majority of Americans.  I couldn't drive from Neptune Beach to Disney on a single charge.  As a second car for local commuting, fine, but who wants to be so limited in their primary vehicle?  The limited range is still a major drawback.

You went all the way back to post 24, and then you pretended not to notice that post 24 was in reply to post 21, which was by you. And post 21 was the first one to talk about burning other people's cars as a political move.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.
