Lol. Yes they do. Every doctor does this now but especially shrinks. They need to know what prompted you to be there, your symptoms, your list of meds, the diagnosis from your previous shrink if applicable. They'll ask about your home life, your work life, your hobbies, your family history of mental illness. 

At some point they'll probably figure out political leanings based on random info the patient gives. Hell, you can just look at some people and tell which side of the aisle they sit on. Back in the 90s I had a shrink who was full on hippie chick. Definitely liberal but not the hateful kind we see now. 

If a shrink (or any doctor) ever does start publicly talking about "conservatives are crazy!" or "liberals are crazy!" they won't be a practicing shrink for very long.
