Has Bridgewater gone from overrated to underrated? Is he still an option at 3?
|
For nearly the entire college football season, the spotlight was on Bridgewater. He was the slam dunk number one pick. He was probably a little overhyped if we are being honest. And like Lou Ferrigno said in Pumping Iron, "the king of the hill has nowhere to go but down". And that is what happened with Bridgewater. Size concerns, arm concerns, mediocre pro day. He's sliding down draft boards. Or is he? None of us really know. But while it seems like he may have been a little overrated previously, I think he is being underrated now.
He is still the same QB he was last season. His thin frame is a legit concern, as it should be. Can he hold up to the punishment that NFL quarterbacks take? Time will tell. Is he any smaller than a Tom Brady was when he came into the league? But his ability is there. Lets forget his Pro Day for a second and talk about what we saw on the field. He's accurate. He's mobile. He appears to have good pocket presence. And while he does not have a cannon for an arm, his arm is strong enough. And he is still the most "NFL ready" quarterback in this draft. It's funny how fast things can change. For probably a full calendar year, the name Teddy Bridgewater was on the tip of everybody's tongue when it came to the Jaguars 2014 draft plans. For the first half of this past season, it looked like a slam dunk that Teddy was going to be a Jaguar. There were Tank 4 Teddy signs. Teddy Franchise meme's. It was about a sure thing as sure things get. But then...the Jaguars won some games. They beat Houston twice and ended up third in the draft order. The talk then turned to how Jacksonville handed Bridgewater to Houston. Now (barring a stunning move) Bridgewater will be there at 3. Could he be the choice? I don't know but I think he is an option. If the team trades down with someone like Tampa or Atlanta, the likelyhood increases.
