What do you think Detroit will do, and give up if the rumor is true? Say to move up to #3. I would think at least #10, #45, and maybe even #111 (4th).

I think the trade terms you mentioned are at or very close to what would be the trade compensation if the Jaguars and Lions made a trade.

 

It's anyone's guess whether the Lions are seriously interested in trading up for Sammy Watkins or whether it's a smokescreen.  What is evident is the Lions are creating the public impression that the team brass wants Watkins.   The Lions met with him at the Combine.   Then Martin Mayhew and Jim Caldwell went out to dinner with Watkins and his family around the time period of his Clemson Pro-Day.  Then yesterday,  the Lions hosted Watkins for a pre-draft visit.    The Lions under Martin Mayhew are rarely this overt about being interested in a player.    That's why I think this could easily be a smokescreen.   

 

In making a case why the Lions could have serious interest in Watkins,   Calvin Johnson turns 29 this fall and is coming off a knee injury that adversely affected him in 2013.     Also,   Ryan Broyles is coming off a Torn Achilles' Tendon,  this after two separate two ACL injuries.   Even with Golden Tate in the fold,  WR has to be addressed.   The question is to what extent.   In a deep WR draft,   the Lions have the luxury of not taking a WR in the first couple of rounds.    Yet,  Watkins has unique talent.   The type of talent that would provide the Lions a high caliber future # 1 WR and someone who can keep the Offense going in the meanwhile if Megatron is sidelined again.   Words can't even describe how much the Lions Offense suffers w/o Calvin Johnson.

 

If the Lions keep pick # 10,  at this point in time I think the decision will come down to Anthony Barr,  Justin Gilbert,  or Mike Evans.  Being that in the last 4 drafts the Lions selected 3 Defensive Lineman and 1 Offensive Lineman in Round 1,   it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Barr is the pick.    Especially since he has very good pass rush potential.   Jim Caldwell and Def. Coordinator Teryl Austin have mentioned that the Lions are looking to add a pass rushing type of LB to the mix,  to vary the Defensive Alignments/  Calls from the base 4-3.   I'm going under the assumption that Khalil Mack will be taken before pick # 10.
