Why commit so much money to Derek Cox when he probably is not a good fit on this defense anyway?

 

Derek Cox didn't sign for big money, he was more then affordable.

I'm responding to an argument a 2-14 team couldn't be that bad off for letting starters walk away after going 2-14.

2) I am being honest. The Jaguars found great success as an opening franchise. AFC Championship games in the first few years of a franchise is a big deal. This team hasn't been truly bad for THAT long. The year it needed to be with Andrew Luck and RGIII we missed out. This year I see a guy that could be on that level and I don't want to miss out. I'm willing to struggle to get the first pick in the draft and a shot at a elite player in the most important position on sports. It will get better, all we have to do is wait.

 

MJD isn't in the long term plans either, why are we keeping him around? Because letting him go would leave us needing immediate help at another position, for that same reason we should've retained some help on the defensive side of the ball.

 

I don't think the defense is any better this year, but time will tell. We will find out how good or bad this defense is in the next few weeks, like you said it's week 2 so maybe my judgment on them is premature.
