Breaking Down The Monroe Trade
|
Quote:how do the browns come out and say they didn't know that Monroe was avalable, then a report comes out countering that saying they offered less. Well if that is true it does seem like we got the best value for him if it was even less than that. The more important question: If the browns saidd after the deal went down that they were also interested, what other teams might also have been interested? And the most important question--would those other teams have offered more? Not shopping around one of our most talented players? It's just layz GM'ing as I said I think in another thread. The first offer that's given you jump on? Also, I never said this was anything other than a football decision. What I said is that it was a cheap move. Alot of football decisions are made based not only on the player but the "value". This implies that more than just his talent is involved in the decision making process. How many times have we heard that "this is a business". So to say that money is not factored into a football decision is to be naive. What I meant by "cheap" is more of a mentality that has been going on with this organization for a long time. The idea that we can out smart the league and thus save money. At some point we all must realize that you have to ante up. You need skin in the game to get the payout. And yes, that means sometimes paying alot for players and coaches that are worth the money. Hopefully Caldwell will figure this stuff out. If QB is the most important position, you should probably invest some money in those that protect the QB. That's how I see it, anyways. |
