Revisiting the Alex Smith trade

#14

Quote:I think that it was an 'okay' move for Kansas City, and it would have been a bad move for Jacksonville.

As stated above, Kansas City really did have a 10+ win roster going into the 2013 Draft. They had a Defense armed with Pass Rushers and a really good Safety in terms of Hali and Berry, they had weapons on Offense in the case of Charles and Bowe. They just needed a Quarterback to make the thing move. While I don't think that Smith is an upper echelon QB, he is obviously good enough to win you a few games. I think the trade worked out well for that team.

As for Jacksonville, the roster was rather stinking bare and still kinda is. To trade away two "starting caliber" draft selections for one guy, would not have been advisable.

Good for them, woulda been bad for us.

Agreed.  KC was significantly better than their record 2 years ago.  The Jaguars were very much deserving of their record.  This team was wise not to trade for Smith based on where it was last year when that was an option.  Smith wouldn't have done anything to change the fortunes for the Jaguars beyond the 4 wins they wound up compiling.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
