We have had the 12 team system for a really long time.  I don't see another change for probably the same amount of time.

 

The networks will dictate what makes the most sense.  Not the fans. Goodell will go along with what the networks who are writing the checks want.  If they see ample rewards for a 14 team playoff, they'll push for the next step if they think they can maintain or increase the revenue.  It's not about what people want.  It's about what advertisers are willing to pay the networks, and in turn what they're willing to give the league.
