Get the QB or build the roster

I agree with Pirkster in that a top 5 player in the draft should be able to start immediately and be an impact player, but the debate of whether or not sitting a rookie qb helps is a tough debate. Would Aaron Rodgers been any less great had he not sat under Bret Farve for example?
If you draft a QB in the top 5, you can argue as to whether he should start or not if he beats out the veteran QB you have in preseason but he should def. be an NFL QB starter on most teams taken that high in my opinion. The so called premium positions usually starts with QB, DE (because he sacks other teams QBs), OT {those 3 especially usually go in the top 5 if they are worthy of going that high before other positions}. If not say all the QBs are really a huge risk, then if a team takes them in the 1st round they probably have to start them anyways because they are desperate... (really i would go as far as saying top 15).. see Gabert for example.... all this talk about how they have no intention of starting him right away went right out the window... I would really be shocked if Matthews and Robinson were not taken in the top 10, however their is a lot of great OTs in this draft and some are quite similar to the two but still teams need an anchor like them. I think a team will jump up and take Johnny Football if not the Texans, maybe a trade up to the Rams or Jags to draft him. You can debate on whether or not he's a reach, but teams know success rides on the offensive leader of the team & he's the smartest / most talented QB in this year's draft. I think Clowney will go 1st or 2nd in the draft but I'm hoping 3rd to the Jaguars. |
