You avoid having to hope Bridgewater falls to a place you can trade for him, then hope you can agree to a deal to get him, then suffer the loss of the picks.

 

Now you can argue that giving up what Minnesota did to get Bridgewater (the 40th pick and a 5th rounder) was reasonable for Jacksonville.  Absent trading down, keeping the picks this year had to be a priority for a team with so many holes.
 

That price is pennies to give up for a franchise QB.
