Here are my issues with this pick:

 

1. Even the Jags and the talking heads keeps saying he can be a starting quarterback for a decade. There is a difference between a starting quarterback and a Superbowl winning quarterback.  A top 5 QB should be expected to have that ceiling, and I have hear NO one say that about Bortles. They say he has talent and high ceiling. A few people have mentioned maybe like Big Ben but that is it. 

 

2. How often do QB's win a Superbowl after their huge big payday? How many dynasty that have won Super Bowls have QB's who are on their first contract vs their second/third contract. There is a reason for this. It is easier to win when you are paying him nickels and getting back production of dollars. By drafting "your" QB now when this team is years away, you are making that window short or expecting to good faster than expected. Basically you are handcuffing yourself with this move.

 

3. They keep saying he is their QB for the next decade. So what that basically means is that they did NOT think it would be right to different position now and drafting a QB in 2014 and 2015. In other words, you are not only saying Bortles is better than all the QB prospects in 2014, but also in 2015/2016 when you could have still drafted a QB at the beginning of your competition window. They even said as much in the pressing. Does everyone here think Bortles has higher ceiling/better outlook than every college QB that can come out in the next 2 years?
