Here's where you're not smart: You asked, "Is the defense really better?" The answer is no. It's not. It's not getting worse, though. It's got a lot of young potential with promising rookies from all over the draft. This was obviously (well, maybe not obviously for you) a draft to lay the groundwork for a new defense, not a draft to supplement a defense that just needed a couple more pieces.

I welcome your point and without questioning your intelligence would counter your point with the following;

 

to rebuild this franchise do you not agree we would've been better served to plug holes on the defensive side and address the glaring issues on offensive side of the ball or even the pass rush?

 

What is the point of replacing players to stay the same, I'd argue these player where replaced with the belief the defensive side of the ball would improve not get worse or stay the course. Are you suggesting players like Evans, Hayes, Marks, Miller are to be center pieces of this new defense we are building? How is it not a spoiled offseason if everything we did was to equal the same production as last year?

 

Let's ask this question If we spend next year drafting a QB (any QB doesn't matter who at this point) and we get some young RB a few linemen and the offense has the same production as this group is it progress?

 

Progress is marked by results, not the changing of personal or the promise of future results, and as of today we have no progress, this is of concern to me.
