If Mathis was telling the truth, I wouldn't have a problem with what he's doing. 

 

The problem here is that we have a 33-year-old with 11 years in the league. He had a gradual decline in performance since 2010 until he blew up last year. Now his agent is the loudest one in the room. It all just goes together. Obviously, anything short of Mathis admitting it wont sway your opinion, but I think everything supports an attempt to get better. 

 

How many years does he have left on his contract?
