While I disagree that having cameras following him around automatically means he isn't focused on football, I will say that if I'm Fisher, I'm not happy about it as at the very least it will draw unwanted attention to the player and the team. What a player does off the field is not an indicator of how focused on football they are, how they handle it is.

Every player has distractions of the field, if they can't manage them, then they fail. Adrian Peterson kept playing hard through the death of his son for heavens sake, if he can do that you think another player can't deal with a camera crew for a few hours a day?

 

The fact that its pretty hard to put a definative answer on what being 100% focused on football means shows what an irrelevent term it is. If Michael Sam is doing all the things he is supposed to be doing with regards to practice and staying in shape, then he is doing his job. Justin Blackmon, while clearly having major issues, was just a passed drugs test away from being what any lay person would consider 100% focused on football. he would be practicing every day, working hard (so the coaches said) and playing football to a high level.

 

There is a reason many football teams don't want Hard Knocks to follow their team around all preseason.  It changes the dynamic.  There are things players and coaches cant do or say in front of the camera that they would normally say if they weren't around.  They have to "watch their back."

 

It would be the same thing if Oprah and crew decided to film them.  It is a distraction, which makes you less than 100% focused on football.
