It would be the same thing if Oprah and crew decided to film them.  It is a distraction, which makes you less than 100% focused on football.

 

 

3 out of the last 4 teams on Hard Knocks got to the playoffs. Its a distraction if you let it distract you and not all distractions are bad. Getting married, having a kid and throwing a birthday party are 'distractions' from football, but I wouldn't imagine people would say football players shouldn't do these things.

 

If Sam lets it distract him from football, then he isn't 100% focused on football and he is more likely to fail, just like the guy who is distracted with worry about his sick mother, or the guy distracted by his messy divorce, or the guy who is distracted by his addiction to pain killers.

 

If he doesn't let it distract him, he will be like 95% of the rest of the league who have busy, messy, complicated lives off the field and who get on with it.
