If Sam lets it distract him from football, then he isn't 100% focused on football and he is more likely to fail, just like the guy who is distracted with worry about his sick mother, or the guy distracted by his messy divorce, or the guy who is distracted by his addiction to pain killers.

 

If he doesn't let it distract him, he will be like 95% of the rest of the league who have busy, messy, complicated lives off the field and who get on with it.
A show about the team and a show about an individual (and in this case, the majority not about football I'd imagine) are totally different. Comparing apples to oranges there. As is the example of players having kids, getting married/divorced, etc.
