The players and owners are two different situations.
The players are under rules collectively bargained by the NFLPA. The substance Mathis is suspended for is a banned substance as agreed to by the NFLPA. He has no leg to stand on. What are Goodell's powers to suspend an owner? There is nothing written into the bylaws like there is with the players. My guess is Goodell will take action prior to the season as the pressure is mounting.
