Gus Lays To Rest Any Thought Of QB Controversy

Quote:The only opinion that matters is the one being formulated by the people who actually have a say in the decision making process.  They've been pretty clear what their view of Henne is, and if they didn't feel comfortable with what he brings to the table for the short term, I'm fairly certain they wouldn't have made it a priority to re-sign him.  Their jobs depend on getting decisions like this right.  Apparently, the QBs you liked in free agency didn't inspire much excitement from the Jaguars front office.  I'll trust their judgment on that over a message board GM.  Sorry.

We'll see what he's capable of this year.  He's got 16 games to show what he can do.  After that, he's back to the backup role.

I guess it's a good thing your heart isn't making the decisions for this team.

I disagree with the notion that the only opinions that matter are those of the front office. If that were true, what is the point of a message board. Assigning the label of "message board GM" to me for expressing an opinion about Henne's abilities as a QB is just silly. The entire tone of that statement is dismissive and implies your opinion is better than mine after you clearly make the argument neither of ours matter. Opinions of fans like you and I do matter. When fans feel the team is doing things wrong and their devotion and money are being wasted on empty hopes you get blackouts and all the negativity we experienced 5 years ago. When the fans feel the team is doing things right you get a record turnout at a rookie minicamp and an uptick in ticket sales.

Did you trust your own opinion or possibly that of a "message board GM" when Gene Smith was calling the shots or did you simply tell yourself, this GM knows better than I? I didn't like the fact we re-signed Henne. I think he has peaked and will never reach the levels others feel he is capable of because he has a better supporting cast and another year in this system. Sue me. In truth, they likely came to the quick conclusion there wasn't a much better option available in free agency and went with the devil they knew. They said a whole bunch of nice things about him, but what are they going to say? He was the best option until we get someone better? It was obvious before they drafted Bortles.

I presented an argument that wasn't toeing the front office line and provided supportive evidence based on Henne's history and I get accused of just being negative. Which is quite the opposite of the bulk of what I post here. He was abysmal last season. Watching him run this offense week after week was like being in an abusive relationship. I get that the team has a plan for easing Blake into the starting role and I never challenged that logic. Getting all high and mighty because I think the guy slated to start week 1 for this team is a liability who has never strung together three decent games is not necessary.
Only a chump boos the home team!
