Because the world does not end at the end of this season. There will be more seasons, and this team will be expecting to be coming out of the rebuilding process as we enter those seasons. If Henne is an acceptable answer for this season, but not for the long term when the team should be getting ready to make serious playoff runs then it makes sense to draft a quarterback now who will take a year to get into starting form, but once he is will be able to lead those playoff runs.

TMD was pretty clear in what he said. He took that position. A number of people vociferously disagreed with him. And he's right. Some of them probably disagreed with him because he's TMD (he could post claiming that water is wet and you'd find some people willing to argue the case), but a lot of them disagreed with him because they felt a first round pick should start and make a difference from year one. They're wrong, but a lot of people do hold that opinion and make it known, both now and then.
