Radio City Music Hall is apparently unavailable — that wouldn't have been the case had the league simply booked it — though the draft could still be held in New York at Madison Square Garden. Per Rapsheet, it appears the draft will be held either April 22-25 or April 29-May 2. That means, at minimum, it would be a week earlier than this season. Returning to April 22-25 would be in accordance with the league's pre-2014 schedule. Expanding to four nights would be overkill for an event that is already stretched too thin.

If they want to put a franchise in LA, which they do, it makes all the sense in the world to move it to LA.

 

There's nothing particularly special about the draft being in NYC or why it should forever stay there.

 

I mentioned this in a draft thread this spring.  I wouldn't be surprised at all if they moved the draft to LA, or even London... at least on a one-off or trial basis, etc.  Those are the markets they are reaching out to, and it makes complete sense if they want to expand those efforts.
