Jaguars will NOT release Justin Blackmon upon reinstatement

Quote:I may be mistaken, but IF he is reinstated he is only a drink away from a permanent lifetime ban.  My point is why take the risk to sign somebody like that?  If you can't sign him and can't trade him, then what?

There's no permanent ban from football.  What he's dealing with now is as bad as it gets.  Now, that doesn't mean that he can't be banned simply by denying his requests for reinstatement, but there are offenders with far more serious issues on their record who have been allowed to return.

The team took the risk because the initial incident didn't indicate it was going to become something more serious.  We're in a different place now.  For the Jags, he's still under contract, and will continue to be in that state until such time as he either retires or they release him.  Otherwise, everything is basically on hold.  The concern about another suspension is going to assure that there isn't a team out there willing to trade anything for him.  They might be willing to take a flyer on the guy if he's released, but they're not going to put up anything of value to trade for him.

The "then what" scenario here is what it is.  He's suspended.  If he is reinstated, he'll do so as a Jaguar.  I think the team has taken the proper approach here.  Whether he can shake his demons or not is completely up to him.  At this point, if he comes back and violates again, there won't need to be a lifetime ban.  No team will touch him.  Fortunately, with the contract structured the way that it is, the team has some protections in the event that happens.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
