NASCAR track wants to host a Jaguars preseason game

I get what exposure means.  I also recognize that the overwhelming majority who would show up for a game like that, especially if it's the first time they play football there, will be coming to see the new facility, and won't care one iota about the teams on the field, ESPECIALLY if they recognize it for what it is, which is a glorified practice game where they're not going to see the best either team has to offer.

I think that despite the fact that the team has been downright awful at times over the past several years, the season ticket holders have shown tremendous devotion to the team, even when the team took a regular season game away to play in London.  Go ahead and take another game away, and do it while they're still losing a game to London, and let's see just how understanding the fans can be.  Especially when they are trying to expand the market by playing in Daytona Beach, and particularly after the stadium here has undergone significant renovations intended to be a draw for those fans who only have to drive 80 miles from Daytona to see the Jaguars if that's what they're truly interested in.

The interstate runs both ways you know, and the fan experience at a home Jaguars game will trump going to a speedway to watch a preseason game.
The interstate has been running north for 20 years. You are the one who is refusing to accept the fact that it also runs south.

You are right, it is a novelty, but it is a novelty that will attract a ton of people and get national exposure, exactly what you need when you are trying to establish a brand and expand your market.

Once the novelty wears off, you ditch the venue. No one has said it had to be permanent. Meanwhile, you have exposed a group of people who may have never attended a game or a bunch of young people for who it may be their first game, the NFL particularly the Jaguars.

It may not attract a whole bunch of season ticket holders, but it will help establish a firmer presence in the central Florida markets which creates advertising, merchandising, and other revenue streams that this team desperately needs to stay viable in Jax.

On top of that, it gives an opportunity to expose the team to a different group of kids who may not have the ability right now to travel to Jacksonville to watch games, who may grow up and become an expansion to the next generation of season ticket holders.

ABOUT US
The Jungle Forums is the Jaguars' biggest fan message board. Talking about the Jags since 2006, the Jungle was the team-endorsed home of all things Jaguars.

Since 2017, the Jungle is now independent of the team but still run by the same crew. We are here to support and discuss all things Jaguars and all things Duval!
