Is there anyone in the history of the NFL who has successfully changed their mechanics from the ground up? He has been throwing the same way since he was a little kid, attempts at anything other than tweaking are historically likely to fail.

 

Impressing in preseason has been good enough to get worse players than Bortles to unseat better players than Henne.

 

From what I recall the talk of mechanics was pretty well limited to his footwork and balance. I don't think any coach believes they can seriously overcome the years of muscle memory going all the way back to childhood that seems to determine someone's throwing motion.

 

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bortles at some point this season, but I have to imagine the work being put into him over this year is probably going to be more focused on priming him for next offseason than preparing him to start this year.
