Just to bounce off what you said about growing Jacksonville, it takes investment to grow a city, or anything for that matter. So long as the investment is done right, the long run payoff is worth the short run cost/debt. Like you mentioned, improving the "front door" can add incentive to other investors to come in and provide high end housing plans. I think sometimes citizens look at municipal spending only with a short term mind set, which is a shame. Another question I have, would the eventual upgrade of the ship yard be a first step towards constructing residential high rises near the facility? My step dad once mentioned there were such plans a few years back, but apparently the fizzled out? |
