Marcedes Lewis is little more than  an extra tackle that has just enough athletic ability to be listed a Tight End.  Slow, clumsy, and bad hands.  Outside of his contract year in 2010 he has been very mediocre.  I can see the same people who made excuses for JDR, Gene Smith, and every other average player are back at it again in this very topic.

 

Outside of 2010 (700 yards)  his career high in any season is just over 500 yards.

 

We have heard all the excuses:

"but but he had to block"

"but he was going through a custody battle"

"but the Jags Qb's sucked so it's not his fault"

 

I have watched almost every single Jags game since 1995.  There were plenty of times that Lewis just flat out dropped balls in crucial moments or just simply couldn't beat the coverage.  Ego should come after you have proved something.  In his case he should just shut up and be humble.   He is no doubt a tremendous blocker but one of the worst receiving tight ends.   In today's NFL you need a Tight end that can make plays in the passing game.  I really do hope Lewis blows up this year and backs his talk but I am also a very realistic person and don't see that happening.
