When I'm saying I've seen flashes, that doesn't mean I've seen him take off like Fred Taylor.  To be fair, MJD hasn't been explosive in any way other than his belt size over the past few years.  The knee injury and subsequent microfracture surgery took any burst he might have had away, and he's never been the same back since.  He's not going to magically improve this year because those wheels are teetering on the edge of being done.  Toss in the Lisfranc injury, and he's literally a one legged back. 

 

When I talk about Gerhart flashing, I'm talking about with his ability to make plays.  He's not going to run away from anyone, but he's got a sense for making plays when called upon.  He's a different style back from MJD, so flashes mean something different.  But, he's also a very reliable receiver out of the backfield, and he's a solid blocker. 

 

I see MJD showing up in Oakland with the same conditioning issues he had here, and I see him getting somewhere around 700 yards rushing if he stays healthy.  Gerhart will top that by the end of the year.
