In limited playing time THIS season i.e. all being a few backup carries, he hasn't done a whole lot, agreed, but is that a reason to pass?

 

If he had been doing extremely well, then you wouldn't be able to get him at the rate of a 4th rounder, thus making the deal not even beneficial to persue. 

 

A good GM finds these kind of steals where you wind up getting a player who far outperforms their initial "value" that was given up to acquire them. Its a low-risk, potential high reward deal. 

 

Brown has proven last season, when he was given actual starts that he can play at a high level....to the tune of 170 yards per game in both of them, IIRC....You'd instead rather play the college lottery for a RB??

 

Obviously Brown isn't perfect, but any warts he does have are coachable. His pure talent, which has flashed "elite" at times, is not coachable, its innate.
